Sri Krishna Janmashtami 2022

ISKCON Centre for Culture and Education (ICCE) invites you with utmost joy to celebrate Sri Krishna Janmashtami with us this year at Indian Cultural Centre, Petone on Friday, 19 August 2022 from 6:15pm onwards at Indian Cultural Centre, 2A Udy Street, Petone.

The appearance day of Lord Sri Krishna, who the Vedic scriptures describe as the Supreme Lord, is celebrated as Janmashtami. Around 5000 years ago, Krishna appeared on the midnight the eight day of waning moon (Ashtami tithi under Rohini Nakshatra) as the eighth son of Devaki and Vasudev in Mathura.

In Bhagavad Gita Sri Krishna said “janma karma ca me divyam evaṁ yo vetti tattvataḥ  tyaktvā dehaṁ punar janma naiti mām eti so ’rjuna” meaning “One who knows the transcendental nature of My appearance and activities does not, upon leaving the body, take his birth again in this material world, but attains My eternal abode, O Arjuna.”

Lord Sri Krishna also said in Bhagavad Gita (18.65), “Always think of Me, become My devotee, worship Me and offer your homage unto Me. Thus you will come to Me without fail.”

This Janmashtami celebration gives you a wonderful opportunity to hear about Sri Krishna’s appearance and His activities. This event also gives you an opportunity to think of Sri Krishna, worship Him and offer homages unto Him. Activities during the event were carefully planned such a way that each and every one will be fully engaged in the thoughts of Sri Krishna. There will be melodious kirtan, maha abhishekam, drama, dance and to end it all with there will be maha prasadam.

Registration for this event is compulsory, due to the limited capacity of the hall and to make enough prasadam for all. Registrations will be accepted on first come first served basis until the hall capacity is reached. Almost every year we had to close the registrations early as the capacity was reached, so please register quickly to avoid any disappointment later.
